KAYLA HANG • RESIDENT ARTIST / OWNER

INSTAGRAM @K_INX

Hi hi, I am a tattoo artist and owner of KINX.

I received my BFA in Design & Visual Communication in 2017, but began my tattoo apprenticeship under the artist, La Xiong, shortly after. During this time, I was challenged to have an entirely new perspective on self-discipline, commitment to myself and my craft, and creating for the human canvas. It was different from any media I’ve worked with before…and I loved it.

A tattoo is not only a standalone piece of art, but it becomes a part of someone’s body, their story, their joy — that’s my favorite aspect of it all. Every tattoo is an honor for me.

Hello, my name is Kho and I just recently graduated in my apprenticeship.

My B.A. is in art education, but a part of me took a different route in the arts. I participated in the dance industry in Milwaukee for a bit after college, taking classes, teaching dance as an artist in residence, and teaching around the community.

I was graciously then offered an apprenticeship with Kayla as I was having second thoughts on whether or not grad school was going to be my next plan. Next thing you know after shadowing Kayla in her tattoo career, I decided this would be a great way to stay connected in my roots of art and being a creative.

I have always found all art forms, visuals, and performance art to be liberating in it’s own expressive ways. Now I get to create art that’s meaningful, fun, silly, weird, and all the above.

Tattooing to me now means art that connects to your soul. Art pieces that live with you to remind you of your childhood, overcoming a hard moment, or just simply because it looks cool and funny. Overall, it’s a mixture of experience and art that I treasure dearly.

Here’s a collection of my work so far on Instagram @kolorinks.

GIGI MONSTAR - TATTOO APPRENTICE

Hi y’all! My name is Gigi. I am currently working as Kayla’s newest apprentice.

While I was involved in the industry in various ways over the years, I never actually felt the desire to pursue tattooing until I had my first appointment with Kayla. Her studio is such a chill, zen, and accepting environment, which was the exact opposite of what I had previously experienced. Once I rewrote the narrative on what this craft could be, I knew it was time to accept my calling to it.

Outside of my life as an apprentice, I am an intuitive reader, a photographer, a mom to 2 cats, 1 dog and 1 gecko, a creator, and an artist. (I actually only recently started calling myself an artist, in spite of being one my entire life.) You can check out more of the magick via @TheNakedGoddess.

I’m very passionate about helping others find the divinity in themselves. We all have magick within us. Some of us will never experience it while others have easy or unintentional access to it. Through all of my creative pursuits, I hope to drive, incite, and highlight these elements within each of us. Ultimately, I just like to do things that inspire me, and I look forward to bringing more beautiful, wild, and enchanted things to life!
